Bud Blog: Saving $$$ with Kief, Hash, Stems, and Resin

Well, like many other people, I'm low on money right now. I've used the last of my bud, and need to medicate. I was sitting in a parking lot of 1 dispensary I don't care for, while trying to figure out if I had enough time to go the dispensary I love before they close, all the while stressing out that I was going to have to use my emergency money to pay for more meds...

And then I remembered that I still have a bunch of Hash and Kief that I've collected over the last few months (Mostly freebees from collectives I joined). Then I remembered all the stems I've been holding onto as well as some side projects I've been experimenting with and realized I didn't need to spend a penny on new meds... for now.

Here are some cheap, cost effective ideas to make your medication go a little farther.

Kief & Hash:

Kief & Hash can obviously be smoked, but did you know they are also edible? Not the best taste in the world if you take them straight, but if you mix them with something it’s a great way to medicate.

I use a grinder for my bud when I vaporize or want to pack my dug out for road trips. My grinder has a kief catcher that collects any loose kief that falls off during grinding. Every few weeks I have a half gram to a gram of great kief. Now I can take this kief and make a liquid (Tincture), or add it to foods. When adding to a food, be sure there is some fat in the food, to make it easier for your body to absorb the THC. You can look up several recopies for tinctures, but if you’re just playing with Kief you can dump a gram or two into one of those airplane bottles of liquor (try to deg one in a dark brown or blue bottle to avoid light from destroying the THC) Shake it up and leave it over night. The higher the alcohol content, the better the THC gets absorbed. You could strain out the Kief if you want to, but it’s like a powder so you could drink it straight if you wanted to.

Hash can be eaten straight too, but who wants that crap sticking to your teeth. Break it up, and put it in some food with fat in it like yogurt. You can also put it in a HOT tea (with very little smell). You can sprinkle it on a sandwich if you want (try putting in Peanut butter, it will hold the hash in place so it doesn’t fall out while you are eating & it has a good fat content).

I’ve also melted small bits of Hash onto cigarettes I smoke. It gives the smoke a strong taste and smell. Apply the hash near the cherry end of the cigarette, but not to close to the edge or you’ll burn it up when you light up. As you draw on the cig, some of the hash will actually move down towards the butt end (remember to keep it away from the part of the cig you hold or your fingers will get covered in tar).

And since hash will usually dissolve in alcohol you can try making a tincture out of it, but I haven’t tried this one yet.

Stems & Shake :

Most of us know you can make tea from stems and leaves (or shake), and you can find recopies online about doing this. Basically you just boil it in water and you have tea.

But did you know you can take the stems & shake and make an alcohol rub? Alcohol not only is a great agent for carrying THC, but it is quickly absorbed by our bodies. The best places to absorb are near large veins or arteries, but this method works great for general pain spots like knees and shoulders.

Also, if you Vaporize, and you don’t completely fry the bud when you do, you can use the left over vaporized bud for this recipe too.

Take your stems, bud, or left over vaped-bud and stick it in a container with at least 91% alcohol. Unless you are using good quality bud or stems, I don’t recommend wasting any drinking alcohol on this, just use the rubbing alcohol for this. Either use a container that does not let light in, or hide this in a cool, dark spot. You can use as soon as 24 hours, or wait a couple weeks if you want. You can strain it through cheesecloth when it is done brewing if you want. You can rub this on and let your skin absorb the THC. I recommend putting on the inside of your forearms, over the large veins in your arm. Has a subtle effect, but it does work. If you have sore body parts, try putting this on them to ease the pain.

NOTE: If you use Bud, you will be wasting a lot of THC if you don’t pre-cook or decarbolize the bud first (look it up, it what you have to do any time you cook bud).

ALSO NOTE: If you use drinking alcohol you will want to strain out the mix and try taking it by putting a bit under your tongue and let it sit there for a while so your body can absorb it. You can also drink it straight, or mix it with a drink; but if you do this treat it as an edible and do it on an empty stomach and eat something with fat in it afterward. Takes longer than just putting it under your tongue, but it will work.

You can also chew on stems, but I don’t recommend this. You acquire a taste for it after time, but it really doesn’t do much.

Resin:

You can scrape out resin from your pipe or bong. Everyone should know this trick by now. Just smoke it, there’s no point in doing anything else with it. The smoke is harsh because it is full of all the carcinogens and other left over materials from when you smoked real bud, but it will get you by and you don’t need too much. I actually have a giant ball I’ve been saving up over the last ten years, and will only use this if I am desperate.

Now if you want to stretch out your bud a little, you can add Kief, Hash, or Resin to the bowl and use less bud.

You can also melt hash onto bud, or saturate the bud in a tincture to give it a little more THC kick, and use less bud.

It’s real nice to know that bud smoking can have so many byproducts that are also good for smokin’!

Mr. Aggres

well since i ve been a patient i feel that it was supposed to be to help patients now it is to make a profit. yes it does cost $ to grow but come on the prices for some these strains is just insane. u can grow it for the cost of about two of the high priced 1/8th's . i am growing my own meds  because of this, plus i know what goes in to my plants. and not to mention the feeling u get from growing ur own, and seeing the beauty in mother nature at her finest..  we should all grow and share as a community...lol that would be great.. gram for gram.. just love.....

I STRONGLY recommend that everybody watch THE COVE, an bone chilling mind startling movie that opened my eyes to some of the atrocity going on in the world. Baby dolphins killed for their meat, which contains a high amount of mercury.

Dear MPP Supporter :

Earlier this week, Sen. Ron Calderon (D-district 30) gutted and replaced a bill that already passed the Senate with legislation that would require all marijuana growers, retailers, transporters, and wholesalers to obtain licenses from the state Board of Equalization — without providing them with any additional legal protections. Sen. Calderon plans to amend the bill to only apply to medical marijuana and its goal is to prevent medical marijuana sales tax evasion. Please ask your Assemblymember to oppose this bill.

S.B. 1131 is now in the Assembly Rules Committee. It could remain in that committee, be referred to another committee, or be sent to the Assembly floor even though it hasn’t had a single hearing.

MPP supports sensible regulations for medical marijuana cultivation and distribution, but additional responsibilities must also come with unambiguous legal protections. S.B. 1131 uses terms that aren’t in California’s medical marijuana laws and requires those who “sell” marijuana to get licenses. Meanwhile, California’s existing laws are vague and Los Angeles County Attorney and Republican nominee for Attorney General Steve Cooley has claimed sales are illegal. Yet, S.B. 1131 does nothing to clearly state that those sales are legal.

There are several other troublesome aspects of the bill, such as allowing police to search retailers as often as once per day and banning anyone with a felony conviction from obtaining a license — even though marijuana sales and cultivation are federal felonies. In addition, the bill does not restrict grower licensing requirements to large scale or commercial growers.

Please take a moment to write your Assemblymember to urge him or her to oppose S.B. 1311. Also, if you are a constituent of Sen. Calderon, whose district includes parts of L.A., East L.A. and several cities to the southeast of L.A., please ask him to pull his bill and work on a better one for next year. There is only one week left in the legislative session, so unfortunately it is probably too late in the process for the bill to be thoughtfully amended.

Please pass this on to other Californians so that together we can defeat this ill-conceived bill. Thank you for your support for sensible marijuana policies!

Sincerely,

Monday Griping from the Desk of a Coop Admin Manager

Chyna_Pi

Seriously, do not contact me without taking your meds!

Since we launched our East Bay patient cooperative mid-April, we have reached many milestones and also suffered some set-backs as we strive to demonstrate excellence in canna medicines, business and technology. It's a huge dish to prepare everyday and sometimes the edges get a little burned in the process.

But everyday, there is a coop patient volunteer who is busting ass to be improving the website, the delivery service, inventory and grower liaison. New day, new strain. Does no good to sit in inventory -- we gotta get our meds out to patients who require their specific strains delivered. We gotta get the message out that we have great strains and great service for our members.

And this is where I am about ready to bust a labe.

My Co-Op Manager is the most level-headed and productivity-minded person I know. Simply, he keeps it Weederific to volunteer at our coop. I just gotta keep it all in perspective -- we work with marijuana and marijuana patients.  Wow.  These are good times.

So I gotta bite my tongue when the occasional rogue hater flames us on CL or flags our ads... even though it results in a lot more work and hustle... it's still weed work -- good times.

Well, this one guy who got in touch with me on Friday just clipped my funny bone and you know how that shit doesn't go unnoticed. Yeah, okay, he may be really stressed in the head and not benefiting from a proper dose when he wrote this morning, but he just ranted about how unprofessional he found us to be and that I have wasted his time -- WTF?

What does it mean to waste someone's time? Seriously. I had someone requiring -not requesting - requiring us to send a photo of our inventory in a bag next to a note paper with today's date written in hand, take a picture to send to a phone.... omg... I asked them to simply go to our website and if they could complete our one page registration form, I would be happy to oblige their (commonly weird) request.  The response I got was: "I'm simply asking you to take a picture of your stock so I know it is real. Why is that so difficult?"

Okay.

Sometimes the noise and static is coming from within our cooperative. Our reputation for wonderful strains and exotic inventory is reaching farther and faster than we anticipated! With all that growth comes a need to streamline teamwork and delegate admin duties.  The reason our coop will continue to be on the forefront of the East Bay canna business revolution is our commitment to be ahead of the curve in technology, literally inventing solutions for our cooperative team. Again, it's a lot we are endeavoring to accomplish, and it feels amazing to know the support and success we mutually share are getting better and better.

But yes, the drama is there.  And Bitch Drama is Bitch Drama be it in an office, at the retail mall, at the club -- whatever. I got on the snarly side of one of our coop volunteers and I'm still scratching my noggin two weeks later.  Not to get into too many details, my main beef is general -- if someone is offering to smoke you out for a couple of hours while you get paid training and new software, maybe it's a good thing.  I'm just saying.

I think we gotta be able to show a lot more patience -- no, it's not even patience -- JUDGMENT -- we have to demonstrate stronger judgment when it comes to dealing with others in and out of the canna industry.

Our coop presently serves scores of chronically ill patients and a half-dozen terminally ill patients in the East Bay area. We also work diligently with our cooperative growers and suppliers so that our members benefit from the first pick of the crop. Speaking on the admin side, we research current laws and new propositions, meet with lawyers and accountants, contact doctor offices and clinics to ensure full compliance. There are so many more things we are doing and even more we want to do.  It's incredible!

And yet, thinking about all the good we as a new coop has accomplished, and all that we look forward to bringing to our members and community -- I can't help but feel sorry and pity for the people we could not help out.

The strange requests for barter. The stalkeresque demands without consideration for our membership application. The hyperbolic expressions of our unprofessionalism. The seemingly lack of reasonable sense in expectations.

Sorry, I got some honey meds, but I don't think I'm gonna be able to help you at all.

Pity.

JoshxMisfits

I just had an intense tooth extraction (two molars were cut out) and with that being said I haven't been able to smoke or eat much anything. I decided to go to C.P.A. and try those THC Instant Strips (2 per pack $18.00). THC Strips are made from Hash Oil, each strip contains half of gram of hash oil. I'm just going to start off with the taste. The taste is super BITTER, tastes super nasty (I suggest that's something to work on). I'd say it takes about 2mins for it to completely dissolve on your tongue. Now keep in mind I didn't smoke for 5 days and I have a huge tolerance but they still worked. The buzz came on as a Sativa type then it slowly turned into Indica buzz. It literally felt like I just took a fat bong rip when one of the strips dissolved on my tongue (you'll start to feel the effects in literally 60-90 secs). So yea, I'd definitely recommend these for people who can't smoke for whatever reason and still want to get medicated.  For $18.00 you really can't complain, infact I wanted to go back and buy another one. Just want to say thanks Chubs for the suggestion, it worked flawlessly.

Best Wishes
