The Dispensary Defense Group is headed by Richard Cowan, a former National Director of NORML and a longtime advocate of marijuana law reform. Cowan began the first marijuana blog, MarijuanaNews.com. in 1997, and is author of numerous articles advocating the legalization of marijuana, including the landmark cover article in the late William F. Buckley’s National Review in 1972.

  1. As Benjamin Franklin said, “We must all hang together or assuredly we will all hang separately.” We must stand up for our own rights, and the DDG provides a platform for a united front.
  2. Communication: DDG members will receive regular email/text updates on developments, especially including “enemy action” that could save your business and your freedom.
  3. Politics: Members of DDG will be kept informed about political developments – and law enforcement actions – from the perspective of the dispensary operators.
  4. Legal: DDG has several attorneys on retainer. They are experts on the relevant laws and regulations, who can analyze what any new developments may mean for the dispensaries, and thus save DDG member thousands of dollars in attorney fees compared with what they would spend if they had to consult with attorneys on their own.
  5. Emergency Legal Help: If your dispensary is hit by unexpected “law enforcement” action, you and your staff may not have time to get your own legal counsel, so it is important that DDG has several attorneys on retainer who will be available in the event of a legal emergency. This service could save you thousands of dollars.
  6. Good business practices: DDG members will be better able to keep up with new developments in the industry, and provide their patients with better service, including legal protection.
